Is it a good idea to take my name off of my insurance policy that i have joint with my husband?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it a good idea to take my name off of my insurance policy that i have joint with my husband?

I received two traffic violation tickets on the same night, one for going 4 miles over the speeding limit, and the other for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, both tickets were issued by two different cops, I know this is going to shoot my insurance policy ski high, because i just received a speeding ticket about eight months ago So I was thinking in order to keep the insurance company from finding out, I'll have my husband take me off the policy. I just need to know if that will work, because the way the economy is right now, I can't afford for my insurance rates to go up even further. PLEASE somebody if you have a solution, please help me out....

There are tons of places where you can get an online quote. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html It only takes 5 minutes to do.

If your husband takes you off the policy there will not be any coverage if you are driving the vehicle. All licensed drivers living in the insureds household must be listed on an automobile policy.

This will not work, sorry. Most auto insurance policies under the definition of "named insured" is "named insured and spouse". So, in order to take you off, you will have to do one of two things: 1 - prove to the insurance company that you no longer have a drivers license - they will want to see a letter from DMV that you turned in your license, or 2 - prove that you are separated and show them proof that you are living elsewhere - something like a lease agreement (a cell phone bill with a different address is not proof).
If you go to a different insurance company and you are not added to the policy, a few things can happen.
If you have an accident - they will cover it (depending on the laws of your state), then they will charge the additional premium all the way back to the date the policy started, if this was a few years prior, this can be expensive. This back premium will be required before they pay on the claim. Then, they will likely cancel the policy due to failure to disclose a household driver. You will have to tell every insurance company after this the reason for the cancellation. You probably will not get anything but high risk insurance for many years.
Or, if you have an accident, they will completely deny coverage (again, depending on your state's laws) and cancel the policy for the same reasons. You will have to pay all damages out of pocket, if someone was hurt, you will owe them a lot of money. Bankruptcy will not get you out of this debt. Possibly they could void the policy completely for material misrepresentation and any claims your husband had on the policy would have to be paid back to the company since if the policy was voided, this is as if there was never a policy in place.
What you are proposing can be VERY expensive to you, much more expensive then just paying the additional premium to keep you on the policy.
See if your state allows traffic school - this may help. Other than that, follow the rules of the road & do not get any more tickets.

You can not be taken off the insurance policy if you are the wife. You are an exposure in the household.

You could ask your insurance company to exclude you (but wait until they find out first about the tickets). If you are excluded from driving the insurance company will not charge for you but then you will not be covered either.
