This is going to depend on the coverage that you have from other sources. Many times your personal auto insurance will cover you in a rental vehicle. You may also have some rental car coverage through the credit card you use. The first thing to do is check with your insurance company or agent, to see what coverage you have. Then check with your credit card company(s) to see if any coverage is included on a rental using that card. |

For the extra $5 to $20 it is absolutely worth it. More and more insurance companies are inventing ways to get around paying what they promised when you purchased the insurance. There are many many examples in the south east of this. Hurricane Andrew in Homestead Florida up to and including Hurricane Katrina. They simply bail out and use a gauntlet of lawyers to protect thier financial interests. |

No, most companies will cover you in a rental vehicle if your own vehicle has full coverage, the coverage will transfer. I would call your agent to be sure but most policies are that way. |

If you rented the car using a credit card, check to see if perhaps they offer insurance coverage as a perk for using their card. Some do. |

as long as your personal car insurance covers any car you drive including rentals (which most of them do, but you may want to check) then you don't need to.
if you cause damage to the rental car that would be considered a comprehensive claim you will have to pay the car rental company the amount of your deductible when you drop off the car, so make sure you can pay that if you don't get the insurance. |
