Its totally okay not to drive when you're sixteen. I didn't get my license until after I turned 17. My best friend didn't get his license until after he turned 18.
If you wait until after you turn 18, in the state of MI, I don't believe you have to take Drivers Ed--you can save money and just take the written and driving test.
Good luck and don't feel bad! :) |

Don't worry about it. I fretted like you, and ended up getting my license just before my 19th birthday.
It seems like such a major deal, but once you go to University (assuming you live on campus), you realize how much you fussed for nothing. I live in a big campus and -never- drive. There's no reason for me to leave.
Just save your money. You'll look back on this and wonder what it was all about. |

I guess it's what state you're in, most would need drivers ed from school. others just need thr mother or father to sign for the test and they will need to have INS. on the car for the road test. Good Luck. |

Now days it is. My mom never drove a car until she was in her late 30's. |

I didn't get my license till I was 17 1/2. You're going to be driving for like 50 years, what's your rush? It's nice to have a license, but it's really no big deal. And you're saving your parents a lot of insurance money too. |

People used to drive all the time at 16, because that's the law. I highly doubt she's REALLY driving. But you know, now in this economy people are strained. |

im 27 from hawaii and i got my permit at 15 and my license at 16 but looking back i think i was too young and dumb to drive. but they changed the laws here not and you need to have alot of drivers ed to get your license at 16 so most kids dont think it worth it and just wait til they are 18 not like how it was when i was 15 i could just drive around with any license driver. my thoughts i think you should need to be 18 |

Nothing wrong with waiting.. My cousin just didn't want to drive and didn't even care to get a car until she turned 18. As long as you have a way around (parents) then who cares? :)
Plus, you won't have to deal with friends that ALWAYS want a ride to here and there. It's so frustrating. |

It entirely depends where you are. In a lot of rural communities, it's normal to start driving at 16 (or younger) because anything a teenager might want to do is a 40 minute drive, and it's more convenient for parents to give their kid a crummy car than to ferry them in to town for a soda. Or to send the kid to the store so they don't have to go themselves.
In more urban areas, where adults can and do function without cars, kids tend not to get cars until 18 if at all. I recently made a trip to Nashville (the #35 city in America) and couldn't find a parking space within 5 blocks of my destination. For people who live downtown in cities that big and larger, a car would be more of a liability than an asset. If I had to live there, no way my kids would get cars. |

I'm 16, going to be 17 in four months and I still don't have my licence. It's not a big deal, trust me :) |
