I live in India and frequently travel to USA. And when I go rent a car, pay almost double the rental because I have to buy all the coverage. I was wondering if it is possible for me (or my company) to buy some sort of protection policy, using which I can rent the car and not have to buy insurance from them.

As an insurance agent, I can tell you that it is possible to buy auto insurance without owning a vehicle. It's called a "non-owner's policy" and it covers the driver no matter what car he is driving. Not every insurance company offers this type of policy, but many do, and it's worth looking into. Your best bet would be to contact an independent insurance agency, since they represent many different companies, and ask if any of the companies they represent offer non-owner's policies. The cost should be much cheaper than buying insurance from the car rental agency. Hope this helps! |

do you own a veh in india with car insurance, because if you do your insurance from any veh you have listed on a policy.Will follow you with any veh you drive or purchase, including a rental veh.That is a common misconception people have they think that they have to purchase the extra rental insurance and they dont.As long as you own a veh, and have coverage on that veh it will follow you with any veh.If you buy a new car, and trade in the old one the insurance on the old veh will carry over to the new veh for upto 30 days. |

Rental agency won't accept your insurance from India.
They know they can't collect.
You'll just have to bite that wallet and pay for that protection.
Trust me it is worth it even just for a little fender bender.
Talking about 2000 bucks minor damage.
Pay the 12.00 dollars or whatever and be stress free.
when I rent a car fly out of state i don't use my personal insurance policy. I would take a licking for minimum 3 years and stay on record for 7 years. just for a few dollars a day.. no way!

Who knows about India, but NOT in the US. Insurance is taken out on the CAR, not the driver. Could be some sort of international umbrella policy available. |

No. Insurance is specific to vehicle. If you don't own a car, you don't need insurance. |

I honestly do not think they offer insurance like that, but I am not certain.
I would do some google searches on business car insurance. They may have special insurances that allow that for businesses.
