i parked at my girlfriends apartment visitor parking lot for 5 minutes when i came out, a tow truck was about to tow it away, the driver saw me coming and waving at him, but he left anyways, then he stopped, and charged me full price at 160 because he had just left the parking lot, which was actually about 10 feet away from the parking lot.

IN FACT, the driver probably did you favor by even stopping and giving your car back because he saved you impound fees and rent charges!!!

Is it reasonable? No, of course it's not, but that didn't stop him. Once the car is on the lift and he pulls away, you pay for a full tow. If he would have stuck around and waited he couldn't charge you, so he pulled away knowing that by law he is within his rights to charge you full price as long as he has pulled away with the car on the lift.
But I would fight the fee. If you don't live there, you are visiting. Why can't you park in the visitor parking? If you are a resident you should know better and you deserve the fee. |

what an a**hole but unfortunately he can get away wit it cause its his word against you and if someone called him he had an obligation to remove the car and not to side with him you got to remember that's his job and he needs to make money too and if you could charge someone 50 bucks for something or 200 bucks and you knew you would get it ether way witch would you do? ruff luck bro welcome to life! |

once the tow truck is attached to your vehicle, they can charge the full price. the question is why if you are in the visitor spaces are you being towed? check with the property manager on this. |

you should not be getting towed while in visitor parking unless there was a time limit or something of the sort. check with the tow truck driver's manager as well as the apartment complex owner/manager and maybe even get some advice from an attorney. remember. the economy is in a bad recession and some of these companies will do anything to get money. i would also contact the local newspaper or new authority and the better business bureau because a company like this must be stopped. |
