I asked this a couple of weeks ago and no one had heard about it then. I was told this was a rumour that comes around every so often.
Hope that's true so you won't be disappointed. You sound desperate to drive.
Drive safely. |

There are NO plans to increase the age limit for driving. The next 'round' of meetings regarding UK and EU licences are in 2010 and 2012. After these meeting it can still take years for plans to go throu. I would not worry.
Hope this helps. |

No, the driving age is not going up this year - although it has been in discussion. This rumour has been going around for as long as I've teaching.
I think it's a good idea and, in the long term, they probably will. This will not affect current drivers. If they do decide to do it, the decision won't be made until next year. Then the matter has to go through Parliament and various committees. Then there has to be a period of public information and change over - we're talking several years at least.
My daughter's 8. I think she may be one of the first ones to worry about driving at 18.
Relax. |

They still haven't decided (surprise surprise). My birthdays in Nov this year to turn 17, so i'm just hoping they won't change their mind too quickly either! |

If it is its news to me. What I would do is give the Driving Standards Agency in your area a ring, can't help you with a number as I don't know where abouts you are, but it will be in the phone book and they will know as they are the ones who conduct the tests. |

Nah that goes round every single year.
The only thing they're changing is adding more questions to the theory or something xxx |

Probably best to go on the DVLA website. or even ring a driving school like BSM who know ther stuff and just ask about learning to drive and see what they say because they would know. |

There are no plans to change the law to make the driving age 18, but by making all the testing procedures longer, a person will almost be 18 by the time they can pass the test, thus making it unneccessaryto bring in a new law. |

You'll be able to drive a normal car or motorbike. From 1st April, some of the vehicle categories change. There are some larger cars that 17 year olds can drive for the next few days, but you'll need to be 18 to drive them from next week. |
