Is the government fair in regards to car insurance standards?

im just frustrated. its my fault. i have two accidents, 7 moving violations and a dui.i know why i pay 400 bucks a month for insurance. the point is, why does the government make sure race,religion or gender doesnt get mistreated or charged unfairly, but they dont monitor age at all?

for all the safe drivers readin this either:
you pay what i pay
or
i pay what you pay

why does the government let the insurance companies get away with chargin some people an enormous amount but will take next to nothing from you........?

The government has nothing to do with the rates independent businesses like insurance companies charge their customers.

Everyone pays the same base amount for insurance. Then there is a surcharge added for risk. Statistically drivers under age 25 are more likely to have tickets and accidents, so they pay more. Also males are more likely to have more than females, so that's another surcharge. They look at credit ratings also, those with high ratings pay less, low credit ratings equal risk.

I doubt very much yours will go down significantly when you turn 25 with your self admitted record of 2 accidents, 7 moving violations, and a DUI. In most states the DUI will affect your rates for 5 to 7 years instead of the usual 3 years.

Your thoughts that the driver who has no accidents, no tickets, and drives safely should pay part of your bill is ludicrous. Quit looking for someone to blame for your actions.

This question is idiotic. It's all a question of math -- if young people were a better risk than middle aged people their rates would be lower. Simple.
The fact is young driver are 50 times more likely to be involved in crashes, D.U.I.'s and moving violations (like yourself...).

Insurance companies do not charge rates based on race. They charge for newer drivers (regardless of age) because they are riskier drivers of having accidents. You may want to shop around if you can. Try the assigned risk plan if your not already on it.

The Department of Insurance in every state has to approve all rate increases and decreases and any changes to make sure they are fair.

For car insurance the most efficient way to get a low rate is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make certain that you choose similar policies with the same limits, car type, zip code, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.
