Is there a grace period (past expiration) in MA for getting your car inspected?

my car's inspection sticker expired in oct. of 2008, and i was pulled over by a cop on nov. 4 for driving with the oct. sticker on it still. i hadn't gotten it inspected at the time because i was waiting on a part from my mechanic; he was going to fix a problem- this appointment was on nov. 6. going to court tomorrow to contest a $50. ticket which i can't afford to pay. is there any grace period in MA for inspections? is there a website link you can supply me with for proof of a grace period if there is one?

There is actually a 7 day grace period after it expires. If you get pulled over and get a ticket, you also usually have a 10 day grace period to get it fixed before you go to court. Show the judge that you got it handled immediately and he/she will most likely dismiss the ticket. In some states all you have to do is show the receipt of the inspection to the court clerk and it will be dismissed with only like a $10 fee for court cost. Best alternative though is to take care of the inspection before you get a ticket. Savvy ?!

There is no grace period, it expires when it expires. I would recommend in the future to get your vehicle inspected at the beginning of the month that the inspection expires as apposed to the end of the month. This way you will have an entire month to fix any issues instead of being surprised and left without a valid inspection.

No. The only "grace" period, is you get 10 days with a "reject" sticker, or 3 days if you've purchased a new vehicle (must have RMV1 form in car), or 7 days if you've purchased a used vehicle (must have RMV1 form in car) from the date of purchase.

If you wouldn't have passed, you still needed the inspection and the reject sticker, to be legal, for at least 10 days.
