So im gonna be 17 in 2 weeks,and i dont even have my learners permit.I was told there is some way you can get a license though if you qualify specific terms or something.Just wondering.I live in florida and am having GREAT difficulty getting to school and work.I hate being dependent on friends.
Any advice or anything is apprieacted.thanks!

Regardless of your age, there is no state within the US that you can get your license without getting a permit first if you have never been issued a license before in your life.
There are numerous erroneous rumors and urban myths going around stating that once you turn 18, you do not have to get a permit to get your license. And the common one now is that if you were born after 1992, you can no longer get your permit until you are 18. Both of these rumors are false. You must get an Instructional Permit so you can learn to drive so you can pass your skills test to get your license. It doesn't matter if you are 17 or 71, you will be issued a permit.
The only difference in most states between getting your permit before 18 and after 18 is the restrictions. If you are 18 or older, you do not have the restrictions that someone under 18 has to obey when driving on their permit. You still need a qualified licensed driver with you when you get your permit at 18 or older, but you will not have the night time driving restrictions, X amount of required hours behind-the-wheel training before you are eligible to take your skills test, have to hold your permit for at least 6 months before you can test, etc. |

Hi Laura/re, your going to have to go to the DMV, p/u the driving book and apply for your permit. Your total cost should be around $35.00. Study the book and when your ready go back to the DMV take the eye test and then test for your permit.

Nope, at least not in Florida (or here in Texas, either). In Florida, to get a regular driver license you must either be 18 or older, or you must have had a learner's permit for a year. |
