I'm afraid to say that you are in a spot of bother. How long has expired for?? If its just a few days,maybe you can plead ignorance. Without sounding like a know it all the fact is you as the driver are responsible for knowing when your insurance is up for renewal. Just think what could've been if you had had an accident.
