So i'm living in my car and i have a dilemma. If the DMV needs to send my registration card and renewal stickers by mail, i don't have a home address so how do i get those ? Can i have them send it to my work address or is there another solution for this. I really don't want to rent a P.O. or private mailbox. I've done that before and it was a pain in the behind. I don't like the monthly charges associated with one.
I would really like to hear from people who are living in their cars, vans, etc. how you guys handle this situation. My insurance company can send my insurance cards to any address but the DMV normally likes to send your registration card to the permanent address on file (which for me was a hotel where i was living).
What exactly will the DMV do with a homeless person who needs to have a driver's license and registration but doesn't have an address ?
Are there states that are easier to deal with when it comes to car living situation ? States where maybe the DMV allows you to pick documents up in person ? I sure would like to move to a more convenient state.

Have you considered getting mail by "General Delivery" at your post office? You simply have it sent to you:
John Doe
General Delivery
Your city, USA
Then go with your ID to the window at your post office and pick it up |

My landlord refused to renew my lease in 2007, rendering my girlfriend and me homeless. For the first couple of weeks afterward, we slept in the car, and occasionally checking into a motel to sleep in a warm bed - this was, after all, autumn in New Jersey, leading into winter - as well as take a shower. Eventually we checked into a motel where we resided for the next fifteen months.
Before the lease at our old apartment expired, we rented a post office box to which we forwarded our mail; the rate was about $36 for six months.
During our time in the motel, the car I had financed while still employed was repossessed, because I was off after sustaining an injury on the job, so I couldn't make the payments, and six months later, someone with whom my girlfriend worked gave us a car. We used the address of the motel for the title and registration.
