So I'm in California and my permit expired and I went to renew it but I forgot my social security number and accidentally left my permit with the lady at the DMV office (strangely enough when I called them back they couldn't find it so I guess they threw it away).
I went and renewed it but the person said they needed to see my old permit in order to have proof that I finished my six months and instructional hours.
Do I have to repeat my instructional hours now and wait for another six months or is there a way I can prove it to them. Could I call my driving school to ask them to sign it for me again (lol)?

Actually, YES, that's exactly what you need to do. Call your driving school and ask for a duplicate of the Certificate of Completion. They may collect a small fee - $10 - 20.00 to reissue.
With proof of completion, you'll get a duplicate permit.
Only three lessons are required + 50 hours with parent.
By the way - in your first sentence, you stated you went to renew your permit because it expired. A permit is only good for ONE year from the date of issue. They probably threw it away because it was EXPIRED!
You cannot "renew" an expired permit. You apply for a new one, which usually involves taking a written test and paying the application fee of $28.00. A point of clarification for others reading these postings. |
