i bought a barn car for 100 bucks, this car has been passed down and down. the owner sold it, then the guy who bought it sold it, then that guy sold it, then the other guy sold it to me. somehere in the middle of this the title was lost. its not stolen i gave the license and vin to the police, i have had this car for a year now. any ways im thinking applying for a replacement title. i called the dmv they said i could do that and it would be mailed to me. then just having some one sign the name thats on the title and call it good cause i dont see any other way of getting this car in my name, the dmv told me to do iens on it but if u lien it i have to sell it and then they told me to do an affidavit of intrest of a car but thats gunna take months. what would u do how should i do this?

sounds cool but they dont really do that here in oregon or really any where on the coast that ive heard of. i did find a company online that gets tittles for you but there price is 350, but the thing is, its online and i dont trust sites or anything. so i guess im dead in the water still

Vehicles are sold by title. If you gave someone $100 and didn't get a title, you didn't buy a car.
There is a bonded title procedure, but it's expensive and complicated. If you pay for a lost title at the DMV, they wil mail it to whoever shows up as the owner according to their records, and you'll never see it.
If you can't do the bonded title, you have a car you can't drive and can't legally sell except perhaps for parts. In fact, once you start the procedure you may find you have a stolen car, and some insurance company that paid for total loss on a stolen car owns it and will come take it and you will have nothing. |

You did well to call the PD and have them run the VIN to check if it's stolen!
Depending on the state you're in you can buy a bonded title through a title agency or bondsman. Price depends on the value of the vehicle, and from the sound of it, you won't be paying much at all. An agent from the DOT will come to wherever the vehicle is (you must call for an appointment) to inspect the vehicle, making sure the VIN tag is intact, unaltered, and you're on the up 'n' up, and then will sign off the paperwork and mail you your new title. |
