When you purchase used car should the vendor not have offered a 12month MOT certificate? In my case the MOT expires in September 09 I purchased the car this week is this the usual procedure? Or have I been misled.

No 6 months MOT is not misleading you unless he promised a 12 month MOT. I would prefer a 12 month one for no other reason than it saves the hassle of getting one sooner. It does not prove the reliability of the car. All an MOT says is that at the time of the examination it satisfied the requirements of an MOT test. It does not mean that it would a week later |

Normally they do.12 months.But not always.My advice is take it for an mot now,If it fails take it back to where you bought it and get them to fix it free. |

No they are not at Liberty to supply the car with a full 12 months MOT, often you can ask them to do one for you as part of the purchasing deal.

No, you can sell a car with 1 days MOT.
no need for vendor to get 12 months MOT before selling. |

You've not been misled unless they claimed it had 12 months MoT. Some dealers will have a new test done, especially if the current one is short-lived, but it's purely a selling point.
Most prospective buyers prefer to see a new or newish MoT as they fondly believe that it is a guarantee of the car's roadworthiness (which it isn't). |

Some places do some dont although it depends how much mot is left to run, for example you wouldnt do a mot on a car if the existing one had 11 months left to expire. So I think that it depends when the company decides that a fresh mot would be more likely to sell the car paticularly if it has 1 month to go intill it expires. |

They can sell without MOT or any amount which is still to run from a day to a year.
It is upto the buyer whether or not to buy it or not.
If you did not ask then more fool you. |
