Well i have 2 cars in the same insurance i accidentally one night hit my parked car and called my insurance .well they came out and said it was totaled but nothing happened to my parked car..just some body damage to the left side ..i have a 2002 nissan altima...any way they are sending me a check under my name and my lien holder can i cash this check and get my body work done on my car. WHAT HAPPENS ? DO I NEED THE lien holder to sign the check ..what happens?????thank you .

The money is suppose to be paid to the lien holder. Contact them to be sure. |

The lien holder needs to endorse the check before you can do anything with it, and I can guarantee no bank or other financial institution is going to endorse the check so you can go off and do whatever with it. They are going ask you to endorse the check and give it to them so it can be applied to the loan (especially when it's a payout for a total loss). Call the institution that you took the loan with and discuss it with them, but don't hold your breath expecting to get the money. |

Well if they're sending you a check for the car being totaled, then you'll have enough money to get a new car! When a car is totaled it means the damage inflicted would cost more to repair than the car is worth. If you really don't think it's totaled, then the money in the check should be more than enough to cover the repairs. That's how my insurance agency works, anyway. |
