Making My Insurance Go Up?

Alright, I'm just now getting a car, for my first car I'm trying to talk my parents letting me get a camaro. It would be an older camaro like maybe a 1990's camaro. My parents keep telling me that if I were to get one it would make our insurance sky rocket because I'm a new driver and it's a sports car. Is this true? Or because I'm going for an older car would the insurance probably only go up a little because of adding a new car and a new driver?

Yes, this is true. A Camaro is designed for speed and performance...something most new drivers are not accustomed to.

It is only from years of research and numerous accident claims that insurance companies put higher rates on the sports cars. A sports car represents more risk for a new driver and the insurance company.

Sorry. Been dealing with insurance companies for 20 years now. My advice...hold off on the sport car until you have more time behind the wheel.

yes its true. At your age you are already considered a high risk driver, but when you are in a sports car, you become an even higher risk.

yes its true insurance companys see the name camaro or mustang or trans am and then they see that you are a new driver and the price goes sky high for insurance because they are sports cars.

I agree with your parent but if i wgere you and you really want to know if they are really right and how much will it really cost for such car insurance make a search for car insurance company and collect car insurance quotes and compare so that youll prove if they're right or wrong and how much will it cost.

That is not true the insurance company can rate you on any vechile for it to be cheaper, for example if your dad drives a honda you can be rated on the honda and your dad wil be rated on the camaro, for the sake of being cheaper insurance, agents do this all the time, check out globalwideinsurance. com

the 90's camaros are faster then todays camaros....well some of them are....but is the fact that its a sports car....the age of the car really should have no bearing...if it did maybe only a few dollars...but boy are they fun to drive....good luck to you

Gee I dunno....maybe you or your parents should ask the insurance agent for a quote and you'll know the correct answer to your question.

Your parents are right, even if you on their insurance. But, the cheaper the car and the less you owe on it will help cut down the price. Try starting off with something cheaper. Your time for nice cars will come.

New driver and sports car make high insurance rates, because new drivers don't have very much driving experience, so you get high insurance for just being a new driver. Sports cars have higher insurance, because people driving sports generally get more tickets, and get in more accidents. Sports cars have lighter frames, so if they take more damage if they're in an accident. More damage means the insurance company has to pay more money. So new driver plus cool car is a lot of insurance money. Older cars have lower insurance, because they are cheaper to fix.
