Making a 'SORN' - off road notification?

Making a 'SORN' - off road notification?

I bought a car yesterday and filled in a form to change keeper and get my registration certificate. The tax also ran out yesterday.
I won't be getting it retaxed for about a month or 2, so do I need to fill in a SORN notification form asap?
-is it worth it / neccessary for just a couple of months?
-do I need to wait for my registration certificate before I can apply?
Thanks!

Timbo is here
Yes you need to SORN - technically even one day without tax or SORN can get you a fine.
You must then not park it on the road or in any public place or place to which the public have access. Only absolutely private land is where you have to keep it.
You should have been given section 10 of the owners V5C (log book) which you can use for up to 2 months for taxation and SORN procedures.

Link below and links on that page should tell you all you need to know.

better to be safe than sorry just declare it online on dvlas site i did but you do need the numbers off the front of your registration documents so will need that to come in

Good question, and the answer is simply this..

As soon as you buy a vehicle, you become responsible for taxing it or declaring it as 'off road' - You are legally obliged to notify the DVLA, at once, that you intend to keep the vehicle 'off road' even if it were only for a matter of a couple of weeks.

Failure to notify them will generate a penalty notice, and enforcement action... The first level of fine is currently £80.00 for failure to declare..

Yes you need to fill a SORN declaration in asap, you also need to make sure that the car is not on a public road even if its not being driven.
Ja.

Yes! because it is now untaxed.

Yes! it should be done because after a month the DVLA computer will automatically issue an £80 penalty, and you'll also have to pay the back tax.

You should have done it before you sent off the V5

yessss...

you are now the legal owner so that makes you responsible for the tax of that car...if you don sorn when u come to tax it they will back date it to the last period of road tax.. so you will lose out on 2 months..you can do it online or sorn it off as you fill in and send off the new registered keeper form..

also if it has no tax because you are not going to use it straight away make sure its off the public highway or you will get a ticket and fine for not displaying a valid tax disc..

Yes it is "worth" it because if you don't you will be liable for a fine and any tax not paid for the months you did not declare SORN.

If the car is not taxed then it MUST by law be declared SORN.
It cannot be kept or driven on the public highway whilst under SORN.
