Is it legal for my mom to teach me how to drive and letting me drive around the block/neighborhood with her in the passenger seat, ( I live in California, and don't have my permit or license)

Ok, thanks for the answers. Oh, and there really is no need for rude answers like calling me or my mother dumb. I guess I was misunderstood, I haven't done this,and I don't intend to, I was just asking to see if I could. I don't know If I want to get my permit or just wait until I'm 18 to get my license without getting a permit first.. I turn 18 in july.

No, it is not legal, this is spelled out clearly in the motor vehicle code. Also, consider that if you are caught operating a motor vehicle without a license, a judge can decide that you are not entitled to get a license until age 18, maybe even later. It isnt worth the risk! If you need to practice driving, you need a large abandoned lot somewhere (and the permission of the lot owner). |

You need to have a permit, or it is illegal. I suggest you have your mom take you to an industrial or business park on the weekend to drive. The streets are deserted and they are real roads with traffic signs, etc, not just a mall parking lot. |

No, it is not legal. It is also very dangerous, since your insurance policy won't cover you if anything happens, meaning you would have to pay for any damages you cause out of pocket. You need to stop doing this immediately. |

Without your permit you are not allowed to operate a motor vehicle. You and your mother could both be ticketed if you manage to get stopped. |

Your mom is just asking for trouble. Legal issues plus what would happen if you hit someone or someone hits you. You and your mom would automatically be at fault. Not to mention her insurance would not cover anything. |

no permit or license....bad news...if you are in an accident even if it is not your fault....you could be cited for no permit/license,,,,,should not be on a public roadway.....if you have long driveway...you could practice there...to be safe get your permit if your are old enough to apply for one.....hope this helps |

Its illeagal and unfair. The rest of us had to wait to experience driving after we worked fo it. its no fair that your dumb mom is letting you experience that moment with out doing anything she needs to grow up and learn to do things legal. |
