My Car was hit by Neighbor who took off leaving the scene of accident -caught on video?

Neighbor down the street crashed into my car and drove off leaving the scene of accident - I have Home Security camera's videoing the whole accident - police watched the video and I made a copy for them for records and they went to hit & run home owners home and lady confess to whole thing - now she has to go to court for leaving the scene and causing a crash - But my problem is its a older car that I only have PLPD insurance here in Michigan -and the damage she caused is worth maybe $3,000 -probable not worth fixing - How do i collect that much money from these people when in Michigan we have NO-FAULT insurance state laws to recover only $500 ?? what are my options to be successful in collecting from neighbor -HELP

You can't collect more for your car than it's replacement value. Her insurance company should pay you fair market value for your car to give you enough to replace it. If it's only worth $1500 than that's all you'll get even if it has $3,000 damage. Since there were no injuries you don't need a lawyer. Her legal problems for hit and run have nothing to do with you.
Here is Michigans no fault law regarding a parked car. The $500 limit does not apply in your case. Her insurance will have to pay you enough replace your car, but not for more than it's worth.
No-fault will pay up to $1 million for damage your car does in Michigan to other people’s property, such as buildings and fences. It will also pay for damage your car does to another person’s properly parked vehicle.
Wait for her insurance companies settlement offer before getting worked up. It might be a fair one. You did contact her company, correct? |

You screwed up! You should have tracked down the culprit yourself without the police then offered to "sell" her the video for $5,000, reminding her that she was guilty of hit n run! |

Being in the Uk I dont know your laws but it seems you certainly have a claim through a civil Court.You have the necessary evidence therefore technically speaking that person would have to pay for the damage.
At this stage you must send the person a written Invoice for the damages to your car and your out of pocket expenses,they would be foolish to ignore it. |

I don't know about your Michigan laws, but you describe your neighbor as being at fault. You should probably talk to a lawyer and show them that video tape, the police report, and the court conviction if you can get it. I think you have a "at fault" case. |
