I got my provisional licence in 1992 when you could sit class 1 HGV straight away and I recently had my licence renewed to the new photo licence expecting it to come back with just CAT C entitlement but CAT CE is still on it so does that mean I can go for the Artic test?

If you have provisional category CE then yes you can sit an artic test. Category C covers all aspect of vehicles over 7.5 ton the E category relates to trailers, but if you just sit a test for C1 or C1E then all you can drive is rigid vehicles over 7.5 tons or the E with a trailer no heavier than 3.5 ton, |

You say you got a provisional in 1992 but don't mention if you've passed any kind of driving test. As far as I know you now have to take the two tests
First the cat C and then the C+E.

Nope - there is no way round the law. Until you have the Cat C full you cannot even have lessons in an Artic. Cat CE provisional is dependent on having Cat C full no matter when you got your licence or what it says on it. |
