My boyfriend accidentally hit our neighbors car with the passenger door to the driver door of their vehicle.?

The car is in my name. He admitted to pay for the damages, the car was parked and told her to get the estimate of the charges. The damage of the vehicle is a stratch from paint to paint contact on the door handle, we decided not to go through insurance because we were handling it and it was a little stratch, does she have the right to choose which estimate she prefers or do we have a choice to pay the amount that is reasonable for us?

She went to two different places and said she will choose how much we will be paying..When he told her he will pay for it, also to be reasonable about it not over the limit of the little contact paint?

If two estimates were turned into the insurance company they would pay based off the lowest estimate. You should not have to pay more than the amount it would cost to get it fixed. If she can get it fixed at one shop for 100.00 and another shop is going to charge 110.00 for the same work you should not have to pay more than the 100.00. If she insists she wants to get it fixed at the shop with the higher estimate and you are going to pay for it yourself go to the body shop with both of the estimates, explain the situation and ask them if they will honor the lower estimates. Many times the shops want the work and will honor another estimate so long at the work on both estimates is the same and there is not a huge difference in price.

As long as the estimate is reasonable, she has the right to choose. That would be the case of an insurance claim anyway, so I am guessing that it is the same for a private party settlement.

Just so you know.. get a receipt.. she can always go back and claim the insurance. She does get to choose which one she wants.

You did the damage, she gets to choose. If she did the damage, you'd get to choose. Like sharing the last piece of pie.

If he told her to get an estimate and he would pay it, when she gets and presents an estimate, he should pay it. period. End of discussion.

I agree with Shelby, first and foremost, make sure you get a receipt. As far as the damage to her car is concerned. If she wree to take it to small claims court. The court would award her the lower amount. I understand what everyone is saying about him stepping up and paying the higher estimate but I would be careful. Make sure the estimate is reasonable. If not, refuse to pay. What some people do is get a higher estimate than what the real damage is and then pocket the cash.
Pay it if it is a fair amount. If it sounds too high, ask her if she would be willing to go to a shop that you recommend. If it needs paint it could cost as much as $5-600. Pressing out dings (no paint) usually costs between $75-120

For that little scratch, rub it off with a cloth, then go to the car dealer for your neighbor's make of car and get a little bottle of touch-up paint. Apply the touch-up paint as directed. Total cost, about $15, plus a little bit of time.

have them obtain 3 different estimates, add em divide by 3 give her that amount
