My car got totaled... and the people who i hit are mad at me... it wasnt my fault what do i do!?!?!?

coming out of my school parking lot some kid a 4 cars up slammed on his brakes and everybody came to a schreeching halt and i didnt make it and i slammed into the back of a kids F-150. i had a toyota camry 2002 and that thing got wrecked. i dont think insurance will cover it. the people in the F-150 are pissed at me but i know it wasnt my fault... i put my brakes on about 30 ft behind them (i was going 40 mph) and they locked up (i didnt have ABS) and now obviously im paying for their damage but i dont want them to get pissed at ME personally... are they right to be pissed off at me or are they taking it a little too seriously??

Kyle, if you have any auto insurance at all, it will pay to have the F-150 fixed. As for your car, you need to see if you have Collision coverage. This will pay to fix your car, minus the deductible. Call your insurance company and get the claim started if you haven't already. They'll take care of everything and get the cars fixed quickly.
Accidents happen, that's why we have insurance.

You rear ended a vehicle.
I am still mad at the person who hit me last year.

They are not over reacting & you caused these people great troubles, for which you should apologize for.

Uh, sorry - but you are at fault. If you couldn't stop in time to keep from hitting the F150 IN FRONT OF YOU, you failed to maintain a safe following distance. So why won't your insurance company pay for it? Or do you not have insurance?

I'd be mad at you if you rear ended me. I think it's normal.

sorry, but if you rear ended someone it's your fault.
no and ifs or buts.
no they really shouldn't be pissed at you, but you're putting them to a great inconvenience with time and money.
nothing more you can do about, but make sure you pay for their damages. just be glad nobody had any physical damage to their bodies.

First off, you need a car with better brakes. If you were in a parking lot the speed limit is slow for a reason so 30 feet is plenty of stopping distance. Secondly, who cares what they think? Do you see them often? If not then let it go. Worry about yourself right now. Find a new car and talk to your insurance company.

Why were you going 40 mph in a parking lot, a school parking lot for that matter? Isn't the speed limit 10 mph? It's definitely not 40. And yes, you are at fault. You claim you maintained enough distance to stop in time but your brakes locked up. Your brakes locked up because you were going too fast!!! Technically a police officer could cite you for reckless driving. If I were in the F-150 I would be upset with you as well. You caused an accident!! Hopefully you didn't cause any injuries!! If they're not going to get mad at you personally then who will they be mad at? Your car?? I don't think so. Hopefully you have enough insurance to cover their damages and any injuries. If you have collision coverage for your vehicle then your vehicle should be repaired as well.

here's the deal: drop the "not my fault" BS.

if you hit something while going 40 mph in a parking lot, it's your fault.

In fact, it's your fault if you run into any stationary object in a parking lot, or coming out of a parking lot, or whatever.

Here's my evidence: everybody else stopped.

Your inability to control the camry is the cause. You don't know how much space you need in front of you to execute an emergency stop.

Why you think insurance won't cover it?

As long as you have insurance, or can pay for the damage, they are DEAD WRONG to be pissed at you.

Sorry to tell ya but you rearended them, so it was your fault. You shouldnt have been following too closely and you shouldnt have been driving that fast. You do need to file it with your car insurance, thats what you have it for. I would just tell them you realize you made a mistake and your sorry and you will take care of the damage. Im sure the reason they are mad is the fact you keep saying its not your fault. Own up to it and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
