First you must report it to the police and get a Crime Reference Number.
Next you sit down with a cup of tea and pen & paper and write a list of all the things that were in the car.
If there were cash or credit cards or cheque books etc. then you must contact your card issuer/bank (phone number will be on every Statement so look out your last one). Phone then up and report the loss IMMEDIATELY so that they can be cancelled before the thief uses them.
Now you look out your car insurance certificate and phone the insurance company to report the theft and tell them the crime reference number.
You do all this in the first half hour.
Now you can sit back and have a cry. |

Police report and notify your insurance, both ASAP and in that order.
(The insurance will ask for the police report number, etc)
Good luck. |

Call the police and Insurance company. If you live in a small area I would recommend calling your radio station and get them to put some bulletins out for it, someone might notice it! |

First call the police and report it. Next, call your insurance agency and they should guide you through the entire process of making the claim and getting a new car if yours is never found. Good Luck. |

go to your local police station and make a report and get a crime number then phone your insurance company. then all you can do is wait and see if it gets found.
i had a car stolen in 1995 and it was never found. my insurance company paid out within a fortnight. |

Once reported to the police you will get a crime number. Your insurance company will need this number when you make a claim
They will or at least should deal with all the necessary paperwork and that include DVLA
Make sure you cover as much damage limitation as possible with regard to identity fraud. Generally car thieves are not interested in ID fraud but it doesn't hurt to cover this as much as you can
If you car is not found and most insurance companies have a time limit on this then they will make you an offer in view of your loss. If it is found they have the right to return it to you repaired. If it is found after they have paid you out then it becomes their property.
This is a real bummer but one that happens. Hopefully you will come out of it as close as possible to even money.
If it comes to a new car then I can only recommend a Thatcham approved alarm. You insurance company will give you a list of approved alarms and should be able to give you a list of approved installers in your area
Good luck |

After you file a police report you will need to call your insurance agent to see what the next steps are. Depending on the type of insurance you have, you may or may not be covered. Sometimes the police will be able to recover the car and the insurance company may make you wait a month or so to see if that happens. If there is damage to it when it is found, that should be covered by your insurance. If you have rental coverage from your insurance, they will supply a loaner in the meantime. Good luck! |
