Most insurers will not total a car until the damage meets or exceeds 70-75% of the Actual Cash Value of the car.

No, more than likely they will not total it. The damage has to exceed the cars value in order for it to be totaled.

If it were $15,000 - you might be close but at $5,000 - just get it repaired and get on with your life.

no it should not be but now days insurance company's are funny on how they decide if its totaled.some times if the air bags go off they will total a car because they are very expensive to replace.
