My car stolen and insurance company is delaying claim?
|
My car was stolen at my school, after calling the police and everything. I was asking people at school for a ride home one girl told me she was busy and asked her friend to drive me he agreed. When I notified my insurance, he asked for a recorded statement which I gave. Then he wanted the name and contact numbers of the two people I asked for a ride a home. Which took a while to get yet i still got them a gave them to the guy. After they contact the adjuster, I called to try to see whats going on with this claim because its been over 30 days and I am trying to replace my stolen car. He says there are some difference in the three statements he recieved and he has to file some notes and contact me later. I later called the other two people and asked what did they say and to me it seemed the same just in different person view and they also told me they did not remember alot...Can these people cost me my claim? I cooperated and did everything..How long can this take? What else does he need Additional Details Im just updating my current status with everyone. I should have just said I walked home. I am in college and 23 yrs old.

No, they can not deny your claim for this reason. As long as you called the police and they filled a report you will get your claim. Please do not take offense to this, but I would guess you are young (under 21 years old). Your insurance currier is trying to exploit you for these reasons and trying to take advantage of you. They know exactly how old you are and are trying to take advantage of it. If I were you, I would have my father or another knowlegeable adult call the insurance carrier and I bet you recieve your check within a week of the phone call. Car insurance companies are some of the worst people on the planet to deal with, they are always trying to pay you way less then what you should be getting. Make sure you dont get screwed. |

I'm sorry that this happened to you! It is quite a horrible feeling, I know because it happened to me. I came out of work one day and my car was GONE!
Rather frustrating because it is out of your control- and you are at the mercy of everyone else to try to get a new car to get you to/from school/work.
I can offer you insite from BOTH sides #1 being a person who had their car stolen AND #2 working in the insurance industry
From an insurance point of view, the claim for a stolen vehicle can be a little bit more time consuming than a claim for an accident. An accident is a little more clear cut- who hit what and caused x amnt of damage. For a stolen car, the claim rep has to research every aspect of the claim to be sure that people are being truthful in their statements to be sure it is a "real" claim. I don't mean it offensively, BUT there have been cases where people report their car as 'stolen' to collect money from the insurance company, but the car reallly isn't stolen (an example of insurance fraud).
Witnesses cannot cost you your claim... if the policy is in your name and there is a police report filed you should be ok. As long as you have been truthful and honest you have nothing to worry about. :-)
As for the claim taking so long, keep calling the claim rep about 2-3 times a week. If you are not satisfied at the answers you are receiving ask to speak to a supervisor.
Another suggestion: if you are in desperate need of a car and the adjuster is taking too long- see if he/she will work something out for you to have a rental car (if legally able to have depending on your age).
Go on NADA.com and look up your year/make/model of a vehicle for an insurance estimated replacement cost for your car (it DIFFERS than kelly blue book).
Sometimes if people state different times (one person said the claim happened at 6pm the other person says 7pm) this creates another complicated step for the claim rep researching your claim.
Call the claim rep again and ask him EXACTLY what is happening with the claim. There is no guarenteed time for a claim... ever..... make sure the claim rep has a copy of the police report or ask him directly if there is anything else he needs!
GOOD LUCK!!! |

What they are doing is making sure you didn't hide the car and filiing it stolen to collect the money. What I would do if I was you would call an attorney or keep calling the adjuster everyday. over and over. Tell him you want a new car ... Its normal to have to wait 30 days though. B/c insurance companys usually have a policy to give authorities 30 days to find your vehicle, if they dont to issue a check for the price of the vehicle. You'll have to just keep harassing the adjuster. |

This is the third time you've asked essentially the same question. The answers aren't going to change because you keep asking.
Again, it will take until they are done with their investigation. Your insurance company is NOT delaying anything, they were waiting for YOUR friend to comment. Looks like she finally got around to it, but didn't tell them a story consistent with what you told them. They need to investigate. And that takes time.
Yes, those people can cost you your claim if they said something significantly different that what you said. |

If you are under the legal age of 21, get your parents involved, this is taking to long, I would also give your families attorney a call, you do have a statue of limitation so act quickly. hope this helps. |

Sounds like this may have to go to court. I don't know how long these kinds of claims take, but insurance companies will try to screw you any way they can. I would contact an attorney and request a free consultation about your claim. They would be able to tell you what they can do. Good luck! |

tell you what 30 day is Nuts you should have had you money in 2 weeks at the most--they think you have something to do with it being stolen--you NEED some help, ask your mom or dad or who ever you have as family---the people that gave you a ride have nothing to do with your car |
