My car was stolen back in january?
Find answers to your legal question.

My car was stolen back in january?

the insurance company have interrogated me and have made me feel like a criminal. They want to believe i had something to do with this so they dont have to pay out. They have reports from Audi about certain specifications of the cars alarm etc and have asked the police to do a more detailed investigation. I called the officer, he said that he has to follow up the request and will let me know by next Friday if he is taking the matter further and if he is taking me in for formal questioning! i'm totally at my wits end and am worried sick. i havent committed a crime but feel guilty, i havent done anything for financial gain, as i have now lost money on my car (in relation to insurance pay out)...and i have enough savings to replace the car..so i dont know where they are coming from... will i go to prison for something i havent done? Thanks in advance, paula.

No you won’t go to prison for somebody else stealing your car. If your car was stolen then the evidence will reflect that. You shouldn’t worry about it, it’s just that the insurance company will be made to shell out a lot of money, something they are reluctant to do, and that’s why they contact the police to do a thorough investigation into the matter. If anything, it’s the insurance company that are worried and rightly so.

theyre just doing theyre job...because there really are people who pull those stunts...well if they cant put anything on you and you youre as innocent as you say, they have no reason to deny you.

Please see the other question in this section "ways to write off a car"

You are being questioned because of people like the poster in the above question.

You have to be put under the microscope because of crooks like that posters "friend".

It's the old adage....a few rotten apples ruin the whole barrel.

With the current state of the economy, there has been an increase in fraudulent claims. Insurance companies are having to look a lot closer at these things.

As long as you had nothing to do with it....keep cooperating....and keep working with the insurance company.

Insurance companies are very, very careful when they are asked to pay for a stolen car. It is standard procedure for them to do an intense investigation. There is so much fraud involved with so many stolen cars, they have to be careful. Hang in there and if you have done nothing wrong, you will be compensated for the stolen car

If you've done nothing wrong you've nothing to worry about. The insurers have a duty to themselves, their shareholders and other premium payers to investigate claims thoroughly. I hope you didn't tell porkies on your application.

You said it yourself they don't want to pay out and they will do anything to avoid paying. Just relax a bit and deal with it. If you are innocent you'll get through it. just don't give up the fight.

Best of luck to you

Right on MSAD!

Paula, it may seem unfair, but there is a reason why your insurer is handling the claim the way they are? You do not mention if the vehicle was recovered or not. If recovered, and the steering column was not defeated, this triggers an automatic referral to the insurance company's Special Investigation Unit.

If you had an alarm and it was engaged, but the vehicle was still stolen, this too is a red flag.

Sorry, as MSAD notes, there is far too many fraudulent claims out there. Hang tight a bit longer.

I'm sorry to be a devil's advocate here, but you have to understand that they must be certain that they don't pay off on a fraud. Their thoroughness in this case will not just benefit their bottom line but will keep everyone dues from rising too much.

If you feel that their thoroughness has turned into harassment, let them know (a lie is ok) that you have been speaking to your attorney about this matter and you will get HER involved if they continue to drag this out or make you feel like a criminal.

They have loss adjusters who try and weed out the fake claims and to see if your story adds up and you are telling the truth.

I had the same thing when my scooter was stolen in London, the loss adjuster visited me at work and it made me feel very uncomfortable, but I was telling the truth and eventually I they paid me for my loss.

If you are telling the truth you will be fine, my advice don't ever use that insurance company again.

If you have a clean record, even if you do get convicted you wont be going to prision.

O.M.G its so wrong for an ins co to behave like that ,let us all know there name so we can avoid the same problems you are experiencing,

Mr.C
My Bicycle was stolen, and the Insurance payed me a certain amount for the loss of my Bicycle. I don't know why you wouldn't get a certain
amount for the loss of your Car. Don't let them know you have enough to replace your Car. Maybe they need to have time to look for the
Vehicle before they can pay you for your loss.

Getting drunk wont solve the problem, araf.
