Do I have to let them take it?
So far,
I was rear ended and both stories are on point with each other.
I was told I'd receive the check today but they need me to send the title somewhere (this is a message I didn't take the call)
Then I get up to have someone calling to take my car.
This is all happening from the other guy's insurance and in the state of Connecticut if that matters.
I haven't signed anything yet and want to make sure I don't make a mistake.
The car can still be driven. I wanted to repair it slowly over time. The repairs are just estimated to be more than it's worth but I can find someone to do it for way cheaper.
So how can I keep my car? Do I HAVE to let them have it? That seems unfair since the accident wasn't my fault, why should they pay me the minimum AND keep my car?

Wow peddle! I didn't know I could get a car newer than a 98 sentra from only 2600 pissy bucks! Hate stupid answers.

Tell the adjuster that you'd like to buy the car; you can negotiate with them. If you can agree on a price, it's yours. |

Foolish idea. You do have the right to keep your car by buying it back from the insurance company, but usually when a car is totaled the cost of repairing it is more than it is worth, and it will now have a salvage title which will further diminish it's value.
Why not take the money and just get a newer car. |

The insurance company "bought" your car. Not sure what you mean by "paid minimum" for it. Check with your insurance agent and ask if you are being treated fairly, as far as what you are being paid. |
