My car winshield has a crack, but I've made two claims on my car insurance in the past two years?

Each state can vary - so I can only speak of what I know to be true in PA (and a few other states I have dealt with, but....) It depends on how it happened - if it falls under comprehensive, it will not count against you. If it falls under collision, it can count against you - depending on how much is paid out. As for the other answer stating that it hurts if you ask your agent, especially State Farm - he is absolutely wrong. Call your agent or company. Specifically say I do not want to put in a claim, but here is what happened - what can you tell me? The agent is not a claims rep, so they can not guarantee how it will be handled, but they can tell you what they think. Now, if you call your agent and say this happened to my car. They will put a claim in. If you have one of the online companies, then you might not have an agent to ask, but, why pay a couple hundred if you don't have to?? Good Luck - call your company!!

comp claims can effect your premium he has full comp coverage the insurance company does not want you just submitting a claim on glass for no reason a small crack or scratch. In my company 2 glass claims in 1 year is an non fault accident hich can raise your insurance premium so yes it could effect it and why would asking about a claim mean that you have put in a claim those are the things wrong with state farm.

with the insurance I have glass is covered under comprehensive and my other half and I have made about 4 claims in one year and our insurance never went up all I can say is call your agent since the windshield is important I would say they would rather spend the money on that then a major car crash later on due to you not being able to see clearly out the window

It's hard to say. What type of coverage do you have? Won't the type of coverage make a difference. You really should get the glass fixed. It'll save your life in an accident.

Usually if the crack is smaller then a dollar bill it can be repaired instead of replaced which is quick and easy and inexpensive.

It is likely that you premium will go up yes. 3 claims in 2 years shows you are not a very good risk. Insurance is all about risks - good risks get lower rates, bad risks get higher rates.

For automobile insurance the obvious way to get a good quote is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make sure that you compare similar options with the same deductibles, auto make, zip code, etc so that all things are a good comparison.

What I usually recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have top name insurers and can give multiple prices on car insurance polices.

It can - also glass replacement is that expensive - depending on your deductible - it may be better to simply have it repaired without reporting to the insurance company.

comp claims do not affect your premium. this is a comp claim. if its a chip usually they will waive your ded to fix it. if it has to be replaced then your ded may apply. contacting your AGENT will not hurt you but contacting your COMPANY direct will log a claim.

I've never heard of someone going through insurance for a windshield. Just get it replaced.

I don't think there is any Auto Insurance company that will up charge you for an accidental happening. This is covered by your comprehensive rider on you auto policy. That is what comp is for. Now if the whole town had claims that were happening all of the time, the rate for everyone would go up, slightly, to cover areas that have the most of these happenings.

All insurance claims are logged. It depends on your insurance company's policy but I would bet that 2 claims in 2 years has you on the edge of premium rate increase.

A new windscreen (unless you have some esoteric model) is only a couple of hundred bux installed. Just dig into your wallet and buy the thing.

EDIT: unlike what another poster has said, it DOES hurt to ask your agent. This counts as a claim, at least with StateFarm. It also counts as a claim with them if you ask if asking the agent counts as a claim.
