My ex has stolen my log book...?

I own a car. It has outstanding finance in my name on it and I still owe the finance company a lot of money.
My ex has sent off the log book and has filled it in in her name. She has come to me and has said that she wants my car!
Surely, no-one can transfer ownership of the car if there is still outstanding finance! I don't know what she thinks she is doing! Do I need to contact the DVLA and ask them what to do or can someone advise me legally?

she must have forged your signature to get log book changed over so she can be done for fraud you need to tell dvla she stole the log book and changed the name by forging your signature and tell the finance company who will prosecute as they own the car. the name on the log book only means you are the registered keeper not the owner so even if the car is in her name she cant touch it as you have the reciept of purchase in the finance docs in your name so dont worry if she takes the car report it stolen and explain to the police what has happened and she will be arrested for theft of motor vehicle you must contact dvla and finance company a.s.a.p and report it |

What she has done is theft and also the car does not belong to you or her it belongs to the finance company until it's paid for. |

Inform the DVLA of the theft of the log book, it is up to if you want to tell the police.. But tell your ex what you intend to do |

Because you won't have signed the V5 to pass ownership to her, the DVLA should write to you asking for permission before registering the car in her name - which of course you will not approve.
Write to the DVLA explaining what has happened, and fill in the form V62 (see http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/AdviceOnBuyingAndSellingAVehicle/DG_4022404 ) and send the fee to get a replacement V5.
Depending how vindictive you feel, you could report your ex to the Police for the theft of your V5.
You cannot transfer ownership of a car with outstanding finance without the permission of the finance company. If she wants the car, ask the finance company for a settlement figure, and tell her that she will have to pay that. |

go to nearest police station and explain what has happened and they will be able to tell you what to do they may even charge her with theft. so go as soon as you can and report it. |

Call the police, it is theft afterall.
And its neither hers or yours, its the finance companies car until its paid off. Then it goes to whoever was paying the money, ie YOU!!!
Go to citizens advice. They will help you out. |

first of all. possesion is 9/10 of the law .
secondly the vehicle is still mostly owned by the finance company get in touch with them and they will advise you what to do. |

I don't think that you can transfer ownership of a car with finance on it. The finance company still owns the car in effect until it is paid for and as such, she can't 'own' it herself. The agreement was with YOU.
I would contact the DVLA and tell them what has happened and ask them to put this into dispute. I am sure that it will be sorted shortly.
