My father in law has been driving in the UK for 16 years with no license.?

My father in law has been driving with no UK license for the past 16 years although he has held a a full license from his country since he was 17 years old. He has been caught by a speeding camera and now doesnt know what to do. His car is taxed, insured and MOT'ed. What will happen to him? Will he get a prison sentence?
Additional Details
He is a uk citizen and the car is registered to him and i dont know how but he is insured under his name. A car crashed into his parked car a couple of years ago and he managed to claim on his insurance... The funny thing is he works for the met police....... tsk tsk tsk..

He is a total irresponsible law breaker & deserves everything that he will get!

Mr Lecturer
Yes most certainly. He deserves to as well.

If you break the law, you must face the consequences.

Let's hope he does get a prison sentence. He broke the law and he knew he was doing it. Sorry but I have no sympathy.

If his car is taxed the registered owner will have shown a valid license. If it isn't registered to him then the speeding fine will go to the car owner anyway and it is up to the car owner to pay or drop your father in law in the proverbial brown stuff.

If he gets caught driving with an illegit lisence then he is NOT insured and will be done for driving without a license and insurance. Usually a fine and a ban.

He could be in serious trouble. You don't need to be able to drive to own a car,but obviously you can't drive it without some sort of British licence,be it a provisional(with a full licence holder sat with you),or a Full licence.
Your father in law will be getting fined for Speeding,Driving without a licence and possible Non insurance,as the insurance he has is void,as you can't insure a non licence holding driver.
I don't know what will happen to him,but he will most certainly be banned from driving, which maybe for a few yrs before he can even consider taking a driving test.

mate, im from the UK
and over here they are hot on that sort of thing.
he will lose his liscence, end up with a fine over £1000 ($2000)
and possibly could end up with a prison sentance as it is highle illegal.

Its people like him who causes trouble for us drivers who are 100% legal and pay our taxes, insurance and mots.
if he was to have an accident, we would not be covered and would have to pay for the damage ourselfs.
Sorry to say it but i hope that he does get fined, and he will realise that it is a criminal ofence and should learn from it.

I am assuming that he is not a UK citizen? I believe that non UK citizens have to take a UK driving test if they remain in this country for more than two years. I expect he will be given a fine and made to take a UK test. He may be given points to put on his 'new' licence when he gets it. I expect he won't be allowed to drive untill he has passed. I wouldn't have thought he would be sent to prison. After all, he does have a driving licence, just not one valid in this country. If he has not lived here permanently during those 16 years, he may not need to have a UK licence.
By the way, if he has paid for his insurance and hits somebody else, the third party WILL be compensated for. But HE, wouldn't get a penny.

He will be fine,
the only thing they care about is insurance if he wouldnt have insurance they will put him in trouble, maximum could happen to him he might get 6 points and his insurance might be canceled for giving wrong information.
he will lose his discount for no claim bonus.
the only risky part is he is workin for met police, and i dont know if they would know they might suspend him from job, becase rules are strict for police officers in UK.
driving without licence isnt a big crime in UK before i passed my licence i have been driving in UK for 2 years almost and never been stopped. if he was insured at that moment it was really fine.

I Hope so
