My first speeding ticket.?

Well since it was more than 15 mph over the speed limit I'm surprised it's just a speeding ticket and not one for reckless driving.

If this is your first offense the judge may let you go to driving school or something to avoid the ticket going on your driving record. If it does go on your record then yes your insurance rates will go up.

You need to take one of your parents to court with you. The judge will probably see you more as a responsible young adult that made a mistake if you have a parent with you as opposed to a reckless teenager who doesn't care if you don't.

Unfortunately teens drivers get labeled as bad and irresponsible drivers all the time, sometimes just based on age. Better to be aware of that and avoid being stereotyped that way.

well Tim ,you need to tell your parents , if this is a first time offense then the judge may forgive it ,if you go to traffic school . and you need to keep that court date .

When yo go in-front of the Judge, you can ask him for defer-ed - a - judication. It is kind of like probation, if you do not get another speeding ticket in 180 days then it will be dropped and you will have to pay a court fee, and your insurance will not go up, but if you do happened to receive another citation, then you will be responsible for both of the tickets.

Since you were actually speeding, it may be difficult to contest. In some jurisdictions you can get off if you appear in court and the officer doesn't. See if it costs you much more to appear in court, if not, it is definitely worth trying. You might see if you can delay the case also - sometimes by doing this the officer's schedule changes and he won't be there, and you can move for "dismissal for want of prosecution". This has worked for me before.

Definitely DON'T ignore it. If there are no points, it may be better to pay it. You may end up with higher insurance rates if you get points though.

You should tell your parents immediately unless you think you will come to physical harm by doing so, in which case you have a bigger problem and should seek help from your local jurisdiction.

Your parents are likely to be mad if you conceal it from them, and it makes you look better for telling them sooner rather than later.

your insurance will go up, but i don't think you'll have to worry about that.
alot of states, if your under eighteen, they take your license.
this happened to a friend of mine, and he lost his license for 6 mos. and even now his insurance is so crazy that he doesn't have a car to drive anyway.
but either way, tell your rents.
they'll be madder the longer you wait.

This is very serious in the way of POINTS. You will get 4 points for a speeding ticket. This WILL raise you insurance for the next 4 to 5 years. Only 1 point comes off each year. If this is your first ticket, you came ask for a Prayer for Judgement which will not cost you points. You might have to take a class - I think its 4 or 8 hrs - and just pay the ticket. If you don't and/or can't do this, then your only other option is to get a Lawyer to handle it for you, and you won't get the points. This usually cost around $250.00. I know this sounds like a lot of money, but when you think about the insurance rates...it's a bargain.
