My friend was driving my car and had an accident.?

I was in the car with him. No damages were done to my car but damaged the other car's trunk. Now the other driver filed a claim through my insurance company. What are my options now? What do I tell me agent since there wasnt a police report ever made and I wasnt driving. I also have full coverage insurance.

Insurance follows the vehicle, not a driver, so your insurance is on the hook. If you and the driver/owner of the other car traded info, that is usually enough for an insurance claim. You do not have to have a police report, even though your insurance says you need to contact the police. Most often the police won't even show up unless there are injuries or the vehicles are impeding traffic flow. The police do not determine fault, the insurance companies do. If you did have the police show, they likely would have given your friend a ticket for something too, simply because the police hate completing traffic accident reports. You don't need to tell your agent anything since they will be able to pull your claim history anyway. Since the other party called in it, I would suggest to let your insurance take care of it. |

When you give someone permission to drive your car, they are covered under your insurance. Your options are to have your insurance pay for the damages that were done to someone. Or leave insurance out of it and pay out of pocket if you prefer. Why wasn't a police report made? And it doesn't metter if you were driving or not, since insurance goes with the car, not the driver. |
