Well done to your girlfriend for passing her test, and well done to this insurance company who once again are out to rip us all off.
Like all insurance companies they are here to rip you off and get as much money as they can out of you. If you don't pay this extra then she will be uninsured.
They only thing you can do is shop around and cancel this one, or pay up and when she is up for renewal go somewhere else.

Car insurance always goes up after you pass your driving test as you will be in the car on your own with no one else taking responsibility. There are restrictions I believe on a learner drivers policy which are liftes when they become a full licence holder.

The only thing you can do is shop around. You will be able to cancel the policy but will prob get charged the Â£60 for cancelling anyway.

Do you mean an extra Â£60? The only other thing you could do is get another few quotes and change companies but you will probably get a cancellation fee and don't cancel your insurance policy until you have another in place. Unfortunately they can do this and most companies will because when you are on a provisional license you are driving the car less and you have someone else with you, when you pass your test you are at more risk because you are on your own and driving more often, especially if you put her down as the main driver. At first insurance is expensive because you have no road experience as such and are more likely to have an accident, that's the whole point of no claims, your insurance will decrease after a year if you have no accidents.

whilst your driving under supervision you are said to be safer. now you are driving on your own you become a liability (according to the insurance company ,not me) unfair but then dont they love ways to make extra money!!

(ANS) I have been driving for many years & know that the reason the insurance company wants to charge you can extra Â£60 is because although your GF has passed her test. New drivers after they have just passed their test, She is now considered a MUCH higher risk of accident than someone who has been driving over 10years for example.

**perceived risk levels by the insurer go down to some degree as time goes by and as your GF builders up her driving experience & confidence.

**YES! Insurance premiums (fees) are outrageous for newly qualified drivers but they do go down year on year if your accident free.

**The cost of the insurance for your GF will also depend upon other factors like a) where you live in the UK b) type of car use c) age of the driver d) size & type of car,etc.

I think this is another ploy to squeeze more money out of us. If you don't inform them of any changes - your insurance could be worthless. When you do - they want more money to cover admin charges. When it's renewal time - keep in mind how helpful your present insurer is! Plenty to choose from with places such as 'confused.com'.
I don't think there is anything you can do till renewal time!

The Â£60 increase is because of a change of risk. It is more likely that your g/f will be driving alone now that she has passed whereas with a provisional license you need an adult present. So they Â£60 is for the increase in risk.
