The guy had an insurance card and my husband copied all the info. We found out today his policy was no good. His car was messed up worse than ours. We have an 84 Blazer that was in great condition. Now it has a broken tail light and the bumper is pushed up on one side. His whole front end is smashed. But, we feel he should be held responsible for what he did. The accident was 3 weeks ago, can I report him to the cops for giving us false info. Or report him to MVD for having no insurance? Cops in AZ don't do a police report unless there are serious injuries, so we never got one. No wonder the guy didn't stick around for the cop to arrive, since he was not insured. How can we get repairs paid for now? We know where he lives because he lives around the corner from my mother. He was about 100ft from his house when he hit us at a stop sign. Should we just go to his house with an estimate in hand and threaten a suit against him if he doesn't pay?

Since you live in AZ, you are required to have insurance. Simply report this to your own insurance company. (hopefully you have collision insurance) They will pay to fix your car under your collision insurance after you pay any deductible you may have. When they pay out, they will go after the other guy and when/if they collect, they will return your deductible to you. Report this to your insurance company even if you don't have collision coverage. Always report any accident to your own insurance. Always !
NEVER try to play detective or contact the culprit on your own. Sometimes doing so can be very dangerous. Let your insurance company do so, it's their job. |

If you carry uninsured motorist coverage on your vehicle, file a claim and your insurance company will handle it. If not, you'll have to try to pursue him directly. Get some estimates and contact him to see if he's willing to pay. If not, take him to court. |

Report the accident to the police just to get something written on paper and alert the DMV/MVD. But be prepared to have to sue him. Go talk to him first and if you can afford to fix it, do it and have him pay you back. Put him on weekly, monthly payments if you have to go that route. |
