Yes he cant take his test without his provisional licence. I would reapply for another - I think you will have to pay again but maybe not as much for a replacement - but I would do it fairly quickly if he has his test coming up!

You do need the license with you and it costs £19 for a replacement. If he has just lost one part, then he will have to reapply by post, sending back the bit he has still got. If he has lost both parts and no details on his license need to be changed you can apply for a replacement over the phone. (It doesn't cost any more to get both parts replaced, so it might be worth saying that both are missing to use the phone service and speed up the process). Either way, explain to them that he has his theory test booked (either on the phone, or by putting a note into a postal application) and they will try and rush it through as fast as possible. This happened to me and they got a replacement to me in less than a week. Good luck to him!

Yes he will need his provsional license (both parts) or the test will not go ahead and you will loose your money. Allow enough time for the new license to arrive but remember you need 3 working days (uk test) to cancel the booked test and have it rescheduled. If you cancel after that you will loose your money
A replacement will cost £19

Yes, your son does need to take his Driver's License to the practical driving test. The person accompanying him also needs to take their own Driver's License too.
Don't forget to take the insurance for the car he will be taking the test in.
To find the cost of a replacement go onto the website for your state.
Hope all goes well in the test for your son.
