I bought a truck off my friend and i got the title but the guy before him didnt sign it and my friend never did cause i guess they never registered it but there is a womans name on the back and then said i need her to sign it but idk who she is...so is there not any other way i can get my truck tagged?

No ! You paid for a truck but you can not own, register, title, insure or drive the truck. The two previous people broke the law by not registering the truck. It's called "jumping the title" and is punishible by a fine and possibly jail time, Take the truck back, get your money back and tell the guy when he can give you a legal, merchantable title, you will buy it back |

The DMV wants signatures of each owner. Have the first guy sign the title....otherwise it looks like your friend stole a truck and is now selling it to you. You will need a bill of sale between you and your friend, and odometer disclosure.
For the womans name on the back, just fill out an Error Statement form stating that she never took possesion of the vehicle. Don't cross out, whiteout or initial a title. Use DMV forms to explain the papertrail and mistakes.
the DMV or AAA Auto Club can look up the truck and see if the first owner ever signed a Release of Liability. If he did, like he's supposed to, then that's where the paper trail begins on who first sold the truck, when, how much and between whom. A ROL asks for all that info and it's put into the DMV data bank. |
