I just purchased a 2005 Jetta.. for some reason I received the car title in the mail today.. shouldnt this be with the VW Credit lender which I have the car financed through? Am I wrong?

As everyone said, it depends on the state where the car is titled and registered whether the lienholder gets the title or the owner gets the title. But the title should have a lien holder listed on it. If it doesn't, someone made a mistake. Whether it was the DMV or the dealership, there should be a lien listed.
I am sorry Nap, but New Jersey is a lien holder state. The lien holder holds the title until it is paid off. NY the owner holds the title. |

It depends on which state you are in. In some states, the lender will hold the title. However, in other states, you hold the title, but the name of the lienholder (lender) will be on the title. |

It really depends on what State your in. There is no other explanation.
If for Instance your in NY State Or Ohio and New Jersey and Connecticut to name a few, you get the title mailed to you. On the title SHOULD be your lien holders name and address. If It isn't there I would contact The lien holder. You can be sure that they will be contacting you and soon. Sometimes DMV does make mistakes. They usually consist of forgetting to list a lien holder even though they are on the Title & Reg.Application. Find out or look at the title. Have It corrected. Notify the dealer of the mistake. They might have made the mistake. |

A dishonest person would be able to use that to sell the car without paying off the loan; of course, the lender would find out soon as your insurance carrier notified 'em that you dropped the policy.
If you're thinking of sending it in (which I would be, if it was me), think about calling 'em, and getting the name of an actual person who will be looking for it, to be sure it gets filed where it needs to be, so that when it's time for them to send it to you they can. |
