The excess on the insurance is £350 and so is it worth claiming or shall we just leave it? We've already rang the insurance company and they have moved it using a recovery vehicle. Can we all to cancel the claim or do we have to go through with it now?

I'm sorry to hear about your car. If it was me I really wouldn't bother claiming as you are not going to get much back and your future insurance will cost more - in the end (when you include the rise in future premiums) you may end up paying more than the value of the car.
To say it might look suspicious is just an odd thing to say. Why would someone set their own car on fire and then NOT claim on their insurance? It would look more suspicious if you claimed as that is a common scam (burning your own car and then reporting it stolen and claiming the insurance money), but I can't see who would think it was suspicious if you don't claim. Anyway, if you haven't done anything wrong, what does it matter if anyone is suspicious anyway?
Whatever you decide to do, Good Luck. |

Not if my experience is anything to go by. My Cavalier was stolen and found burnt out. It had my tools, my hiking boots, my anorak, my walking stick and various other items in the boot. The compensation I got was laughable. I complained but it was no good.
Similarly, when my car was hit from behind while stationary and pushed into the car in front, resulting in a total writeoff, I got a couple of hundred pounds. The compensation I got for whiplash injury was enough for me to get a replacement car but otherwise I would be walking. Insurance is a rip off. You would be better off not claiming. My daughter was in a similar situation and she would have finished up owing the insurance company money! |

I would still go through with the claim, as that is why you pay insurance. But your excess of £350 seems very high to me. |

As the insureance company has had your vehicle towed they may decide to charge you the cost of this - it could still be worth putting in a claim even if you end up with just a few pounds at the end of it all as the insurance company may invoice you the cost of the recovery vehicle if you don't.
Phone them and check what their policy is and then decide what way you'd be financially better off. |

I suggest that as you have already contacted your insurance company about this claim that you continue. You should get the market value of your vehicle (less the excess) provided you own the car (and it is not leased or under a finance deal).
The swiftcover.com policy wording might help you further with this question:

Hi,I am a insurance assessor for a very large insurance company and my job is to inspect vehicles like this following this sort of claim.I would advise you to still make a claim on your policy as you will probably find that the settlement figure(ie vehicle value offered) is higher than your policy excess. This would leave you with a bit of cash left over. Please be prepared for the settlement offer though,do your research into the value, find several comparable examples with similar mileage in your locallity. The Autotrader website will help here. If your vehicle is totally destroyed by fire then it will be difficult for your insurer to dispute the condition and as such adjust the value from Glass guide figures.Be firm,be prepared and have the examples to hand.If you know a motor trader who has access to Glass guide get your car value from them, if not you might try Parkers available in the high street shops. Please bear in mind though the value will be closer to private sale rather than the retail figure shown.Good Luck!!!
PS dont worry about the fact that the vehicle has been moved, this is normal process to stop the storage charges increasing on a daily basis. You can still withdraw your claim at any point, you will NOT be liable for the storage and recovery charges. |

£350 excess is high. Id claim and tell the police!!! |

Is the excess on the policy an ADFT excess or just an ADXS?
Many comprehensive policies have different excesses with substantially lower fire/ theft excesses.
If you don't put in a claim (or withdraw it) then you will have to pay the insurer's costs to preserve your no claims bonus.
Also as your vehicle is a total loss you should check whether the policy is exhausted or you can put a replacement vehicle on it. |

if you dont go through with it it might raise questions as to why our not claiming i would even with excess you will get your money back on the vehicle but the pros and cons are you get your money back but may have a penalty of claiming so no claims bonus goes out the window i would consider wether you wanna fork out more money for another car or get some back on this one you lost i would take the money as you pay enough to insure it |
