I sold my car and need to take it off my insurance policy. When i call them what all will they ask me?

i'm suprised they don't want my first born, they want me to drive 30 minutes away to sign a piece of paper

They should say 'okay' and take it off. If it is no longer in your legal possession, the insurance is no longer valid on it. After my dad gave one of the family cars to me, and had it put into my name, he just had them cancel the insurance on it, I got my own, and they credited him for any time left on the policy... and he also got a referral bonus from referring me. |

You do not need to go to them to sign anything. If you have a fax machine, send them a fax with the policy number, vehicle make & vehicle identification number & say cancel policy effective (whatever date you want it canceled). If you do not have a fax machine, go to a store & pay to have the letter fax'd. Or you can send them a letter with the same information. If you mail it, the policy will not be canceled on the date you request but rather on the date they receive your letter. |

It shouldn't be any problem, they might ask if you're replacing it, doesn't sound like you are. They'll also ask when you sold it/signed over the title to make sure they cancel it on the correct date so that you have coverage through the date that you sold it. Should be very easy! |

All you do is call them and tell them you sold the car and no longer have it and would like to cancel the insurance. They will just verify what car you want to remove and remove it. It's just that easy.
I have dropped several cars over the years and have never had to sign anything. That might just be your carriers policy. I'm with State Farm and mine was simple to cancel. |
