I was in the middle of upstate New York with no one on the road, and ended up driving 80 in a 55. Obviously, very dumb, but I'm not really the speeding type and I unfortunately spaced out RIGHT NEXT to a lurking cop. I was definitely guilty, and felt awful about it so I payed the ticket promptly. It came out to $280 with an added $80 fine for being out of state. That's $360.
Now I've just been contacted saying I have to pay $300 more?! It was my first offense, and I payed promptly, but it accumulated me 6 points. Still, that's a $660 speeding ticket. Is there anything at all that I can do? Please help me!!! I'm 18 years old, trying to pay for college and I simply don't have a spare $660 lying around.

Your best bet is to contact the courts and ask them these questions. They are the ones who will process your ticket and will know all the laws and regulation. You should also ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points from being placed on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you don’t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck! |
