I was pulled over for a faulty breaklight and did not know my license was suspended. The cop told me it was suspended for non- appearance of a court date, I think of a ticket I forgot about for not wearing a setbelt. He gave me a ticket for the light, suspended license and I have a court date for having no car insurance. I thought I renewed my insurance before I moved and I must have forgotten. I live in NJ. Does anyone know what I am facing and any suggestions of what I can do?

I live in NJ, too.
Assuming you DID renew your insurance before you moved, did you provide your new address information? If you can prove insurance was in effect at the time you were pulled over, that charge will be dismissed.
In the case of the brake light, the fine may be reduced or eliminated once you've repaired it.
Driving on a suspended license is also a serious charge. Between both, you're looking at two years' suspension and/or fine, and even the possibility of jail time (though doubtful if you're a first offender), to say nothing of points on your license.
Given the situation in which you find yourself, your best bet is to hire an attorney. Such an investment will be worthwhile. |

You are facing a bunch of fines, extended license suspension term and a whole world of hurt. Suggestions? You've got to be kidding. I suggest that you start accepting responsibility for; "forgetting" to appear in court for the seat belt violation, for "forgetting" that your brake light wasn't working (not breaklight) and for "forgetting" to renew your insurance. |
