Covering uninsured drivers
Whiplash payouts - genuine as well as false
No win no fee

It's no wonder there are unisured drivers when they get caught and pay the fine - it's cheaper than insurance. That's what pisses me off.

your best bet is to shop around our premium went up by 10% with an extra years ncb whilst with Tesco switched to Churchill and saved £110.

Car insurance companies usually up their premiums each year. So, even if you've had a claim-free 12 months, the additional no claims bonus will be cancelled out by this increase. Sometimes the increase will be greater than the NCD, so the end result is you're being charged more for a year of careful driving.
It's the way of the world.

I actually "love" my car insurance company, Farmers Insurance. I've had a small claim in which another motorist hit me, however, at the renewal period, my rates did not increase. I've had Farmers for 10 almost 11 years now. When I turned 25, my rates drastically decreased, and they've since only decreased more and more! I never had an increase in the last two or three years. So, my point is: Shop around. Don't be afraid to tell your current company you plan on switching if they cant come up with a better rate. You will find a company eventually that has rates to your satisfaction. Just shop around. Good luck!

Nope - you are paying for the cost of inflation, the increased cost of repairing vehicles, etc... Each year actuaries for insurance companies assess risks based on statistics for each type of car and each type of driver. I have no claims either, and my insurance premium also increases (although not by much, $20-$50 bucks a year maybe), if your insurance is increasing by much more than that - it may be something to discuss with your agent. OR, pull your old declarations pages and compare - find out where the cost of what coverage is increasing.

Same thing here, you just have to shop around to try and get the best deal that you can. I have a policy up soon and managed to save £120 by shopping around on the net.

Good drivers are paying for the 'No win, no fee' culture that has migrated from the Americas over the last 5 years or so...

welcome news
The competition in the car insurance market is such that good drivers can probably obtain premiums similar to last year HOWEVER you should bear in mind that many insurance providers offer special deals to entice customers to switch and then remove them the next year hoping that inertia will prevent them from moving.

That having been said, you should consider whether there are other factors than price that may affect your decision. Has your policy got better than average cover? (If you buy direct I can answer that for you - NO) Has the insurance company been helpful in dealing with enquiries?

If you feel that there is no real benefit in staying with your current insurance provider then I would recommend contacting an insurance broker who can look at several policies for you and make a recommendation based not only on price but also service and cover.

Yep - we're all paying more to cover accidents involving uninsured drivers, higher personal injury claims, and cars not being designed with bumpers anymore so the slightest prang needs a re-spray or new body panels.

Plus the European Union forced insurance prices up by enforcing some VAT rule or other - the government lost their case against that last year.

That said, those saying you'll very likely save by shopping around are right. I've put in a link to a guide to cutting your insurance costs below. Hope it helps.
