No tax or mot is insurance invalid?

i work for an insurance broker. it does NOT invalidate your insurance. if your car is off the road for any reason, you can inform your insurers that it is laid up, and this doesnt make a difference. if your car has been totalled, the worse you are looking at is a reduced payout on it. they will take into account that it is not technically roadworthy and pay you out a little bit less. dont worry about it too much.

bummer...if the ally is classed as a public highway[eg maintained by the local council] then the car/van needs mot and tax....if your looking for a way out/insurance wise you need to check deads/town plans/house deads at the local town hall to see if the road/ally is listed and classed as a publi high way..if its not then your insurance should cover you...hope this helps..

I would phone the insurance company you are insured with and ask. You have to have tax and an mOT if the car is on a public road and anywhere that the public have access to is a public road. so you may be breaking the law.

It doesn't invalidate your insurance. The only requirement your insurers would have is that the car is roadworthy when used on the highway - not that it possessed an MoT, that's a different matter. Nor were you using it. People often don't seem to understand the difference between possession of an MoT and roadworthiness - despite the fact it makes it blatantly obvious on the MoT certificate.

If the alley is part of the highway, you have the offence of failing to display a valid tax disc, but that is another matter entirely and nothing to do with the validity of your insurance.

You'll be at the mercy of your insurance company on this one.
If they do decide to pay out, they have been known to offer only scrap value on vehicles with no MOT, about Â£80, irrespective of pre-accident condition.
Motor insurance is legalised robbery!

It is illegal to even have a car on a public road without tax or insurance never mind drive. Anaaley counts as a public road

if some1 crashed into your parked van they are in the wrong ...same as if they crashed into a pole ..or your wall or gate... sue them with a solicitor for damages... if you got their details?

Sorry - driving or not you have to be insured to claim off a policy.

All car Insurance policies state that you must comply with the road traffic Acts for you to make a claim on your insurance. This means that the car has to be taxed, Mot'd and insured and the driver must have a valid licence to drive the vehicle. Read the small print..

You have to have all three if you need to claim for anything. I was third party insured and some eejit who was totally pissed, decided tae dive aboot the streets in his stolen arty farty motur!! He crashed intae ma wee Skoda and wrecked it!! As I wiz only third party, I hud tae wait until the "drunk driver's fund" made a decision. Just my luck!! Nae dosh fur me. Make sure that ye huv everythiing in place, that should ensure that ye urr safe and will be able tae gie oot yer dosh tae anybody that ye upset!!!!
