Hi,
my friend recently purchased a car from a private owner. A day after the car over heated, so he asked me to fix it. I fixed his car, but i got pulled over while test driving it. The car was not insured. I got the ticket. Its not my car. I was doing my friend a favor.
I just found out my friend sold the car two weeks after i received my citation. I feel like this is not my financial responsibility to have the car insured or even registered to me.
So am I liable for the ticket or can i fight it?....

Unfortunately they don't ticket the car or the owner, but the actual driver. Which in this case is you. Unfortunately this is an expensive learning experience for you. Sad to say, but yes you are the responsible party. |

You drove an uninsured vehicle. You got the ticket. You have to pay it. It is your responsibility to be sure the vehicle is insured.r |

No its not your responsibility to insure the car. But as the driver it is your responsibility to make sure it is legal to operate. It has to have a valid registration and insurance buy the owner of the car.
If you operated it and it was not legal you are the one who gets the ticket. So yes you are liable for the ticket as you were the operator at the time......................md |

I hear you man.
I was fixing my friends water pump. Test drove the car and got a "no insurance ticket"
So much for doing a good deed. I got the ticket dismissed by finding an agent that "back-dated" a policy for me. (just to cover the ticket) Cost $100.
I live in California and can not afford a $2000 fine and 120 day license suspension.
