Okay I'm a bit confused when it comes to learner's permits/driving licenses. Can someone help me out?

Okay I'm a bit confused when it comes to learner's permits/driving licenses. Can someone help me out?

I'm 17 years old and I live in Florida. I have NOT gotten my learner's permit yet (I know, I know) but I'm looking to get one. However, I know that once I turn 18 I can automatically go get my license - BUT, my birthday isn't until the end of July and I'd like to get some practice driving before I go to college.

So I'm wondering, if I go ahead and get my permit now to start driving with an adult, will I still have to wait an entire year holding my learner's, or can I hold the learner's for the next few months and then go take the driving test to get my full license once I turn 18?

Sorry if it's a stupid question.

You can get your license after you've had your permit for a year or when you turn 18, whichever comes first.
