Over 18 with an expired permit. Can I get my lisence?

I live in IL and I went through Drivers Ed at school and got my permit. Sadly, instead of getting my lisences ASAP I didn't. I'm over 18 and I'm wondering if I have to get a new premit or can I just go to the DMV and get my lisences?
