1. The most popular color in sports cars (coup body styles and fast cars in general) is red

2. Sports cars are more expensive to insure

3. Sports cars get in more accidents

4. So red cars do cost more to insure (in the aggregate) but not because they are red.

jewels of fire is correct. The insurance companies don't even ask you the color of the car, they get the VIN but that doesn't have color on the record b/c it can be changed. You pay for higher insurance if you're young, have tickets or accidents, and have a safe car or not. No color is in it at all. And whoever told the driving instructor comment, you were lied to!! The idiot probably couldn't drive or drove too fast, no insurance company will tell you to repaint your car!

Okay, don't believe this, this is a typical assumption. But it's not true.

The cost of full coverage on a car is based on the VIN number, like the engine size, type of car etc.

I don't care if it has polkadots, there's no reason the paint would make it cost more.

No, I work for an insurance company. The color of your car has absolutely no impact on your premium.

No, you do not pay more because your car is red. Bright colors always attract anyone's attention. Your insurance is based on several things. Your driving record, how many years you have been driving, air bags, what you are using your vehicle for (work, personal - how far you are driving), the car you are insuring and if you are the only one being insured on that car/policy. Also if you take the tow package tends to add a few dollars to your policy and how much you allow on your insurance (deductibles).

IHere in Australia, its the colour that the young kids on P plates who drive like idiots and don't seem to have learned anything, and hoon drivers who don't give a stuff about anyone else on the road, seem to choose, and they already attract attention because of their lousy driving......

Having said that, I have a red car and a silver CRV, and I must admit, I feel like driving faster when I drive the red car.

I didn't pay any extra on my insurance because of the colour.....

No, no difference. I've been driving red cars for ages and no insurance company has ever asked the color of the car. There's no way to tell from the VIN either.

when i was calling around for quotes, most of the insurance agents asked me what the color of my car was and i told them it was maroon, which it is. is my car considered red?

yes, it depends how visible your car is on the road. i.e. black cars are less invisible than white cars, so you pay more insurance on black cars. your insurance on white cars are usually the cheapest.

My instructor in driving school told me that red cars get crashed into more than any other color car. He told us a story about someone who had a red car and other cars kept hitting it. Finally their insurance company made them repaint the cat a different color! Mabe it is true that you pay more insurance for red cars.
