Hi, I currently have my original green papery "confetti"style license. How do I go about getting a proper photo one?? Is it just a case of filling out a form and getting my photo taken?? My license, which was issued over twenty five years ago, is in a really sorry state and I have heard that it would not be legal if I were to be involved in any road traffic issues. I don't mind paying for a new one, I'm just not sure how to go about it.. Thanks.....

waffle waffle waffle.....OK here's what you need to do......
Get form D1 form the post office or your local DVLA office. Fill it in stating that you want to exchange your paper licence for a photo one, Stick a passport photo on and provide some photo ID. If you have a digital passport, you can just put your passport number on the form and sign to say that you agree to DVLA confirming your ID from your passport record. If you don't have a digital passport, you can either send your passport with your application or go to your local DVLA office and they will provide a premium checking service, check your form and give back your passport. The licence will cost £17.50 and the premium checking service costs £4.00. You have to send your current licence with your application.
Phew! Oh yeh, and your licence will be back to you within 3 weeks. |

5 How to get a replacement
licence
If your paper driving licence has been lost, stolen,
damaged or destroyed you must apply for a photocard
licence by filling in application form D1.
If you have lost both your photocard licence and the
counterpart document, you can apply for a replacement
photocard licence over the phone, using a credit or debit
card, as long as none of the details have changed or are
incorrect. You can pay by Visa, Delta, Mastercard and
Maestro. To use this serv ice phone 0870 240 0009
between 8am and 8.30pm Monday to Friday, and
between 8am and 5.30pm on Saturdays.

Get a form from the post office and fill it in, go to the DVLA website and it will tell you were to send it. You will need a passport photo signed on the back by someone you have known for a long time, mine cost me £10, 4 years ago when I changed my surname. |

Go to your local post office & they should be able to get you all the forms you need, show you how to fill them in & may even be able to take your picture for it! Get the photo signed by a pillar of the community (not a family member but someone like a policeman or doctor will do just fine) & send in the forms, the photo, and a cheque for however much the new license costs! It a couple of weeks your new license will turn up at your door! |

i had mine change cause at the time i need some photo proof of who i was dont know any thing about the legal side of it |
