Pulled over without insurance....?

I was pulled over tonight and could not provide proof of insurance because i have none....I have one month to show the court insurance and my newly registered tags (the reason i got pulled over) if i get insurance and tags before my court date...will i still be subject to jail time? and or a fine? The state is Kentucky.

You will still need to pay a fine for driving without coverage and no tags. If you don't get insurance by your court date, you may lose your license. The fine will probably be more than what the insurance and tags would have cost. |

I feel your pain!!!!!!!!!! I have been pulled over for non registration of tags, but I have been lucky. One cop told me to hurry and get them, and another felt badly for me when she saw that I was a teacher and it was summer. I really had no excuse, but for some reason, I was never asked about insurance. (didn't have any either)
Because I was so favored, I went ahead and got the insurance and tags. Don't play around - it will go on your record. If your car is not paid for, the last company you were insured with can (and some do) contact your auto company and let them know you are no longer insured. |

You'll probably get a fine however that is a lot less than you not getting the insurance and tags now and getting an even larger fine. And whatever you do when you go to court do not say that your innocent it will just cause more problems. My sister-in-law did that on some bad advice obviously and she ended up getting her license suspended for 6 months and an $800 fine instead of about a $150 fine that she was trying to get out of. |

If you show up with insurance, you'll avoid the jail time, but still have the fine, as you actually were uninsured, and driving - which is illegal in KY. |

You'll probably still get a fine for not having insurance @ the time you were pulled over, yet it will be a lot less if you can show financial responsibility on your court date. |

Insurance is not retrospective. At the time you were stopped you had none. End of story! |

If you can show a valid insurance ID and/or policy (take it along to court) when you go, you might get off--but you DID drive without insurance! |
