Purchased a vehicle that had a lein issued on it.........?

What happens to my vehicle if I bought it when there was a lein on it?

actually I checked if there was a lein on the vehicle when I bought it but since then the previous owner hasn't been making his payments and there is now a lein issued, what situation does this put me in?

generally, if the vehicle has a lien on it / on its title, the car can be repossessed if the loan is not paid.

Is the lein on the car in the previous owner's name?

Just to be clear: You did not check if the car had a clear title before purchasing it?

Then technically, you don't own the car. You have to get a title with your name on it and the lein released before it's your car. If the loan is not payed and it goes into default your car will be repo'd. Did you accept a title with the lein on it? If so you are S.O.L. I am sorry to say. Hopefully the last owner which had a loan will continue to make his or her car loan payment or else it will go into default and you will lose your car. This was a really bad idea, if you did that. I would keep on good terms with the last owner so he or she doesn't get mad and say screw it. If they misrepresented information or gave you a title showing no lein then it's something you could take to court, and I would, immediately before they default. It's somewhat likely especially in this economy.

If the person who you bought the car from stops making payments on the lean than you could lose the car..

it not your vehicle and it wasnt who sold it to you what can happen is they come get their car or you pay them the money that is owe on it what it means is either they owe someone money on car or they used car for a loan and then didn t pay it off so really you payed for a car didnt belong to them to sell and its not good
